Chery Group’s journey and milestones, ready to officially launch in Thailand in 2024

• The “Chery Group” is distinct from other Chinese vehicle companies in that its focuses mostly on exports. Automobiles are currently shipped to over 80 nations globally. It has over ten international plants as well as over 1,500 overseas distributors and service centers.
• Upon returning to the Thai market, Chery Group will operate directly, rather than through distributors, to develop trust among all Thai customers.

In the car manufacturing industry, China has become one of the talk-of-the-town destinations and headquarters of car manufacturing enterprises. In recent years, the world has seen and praised advanced automotive technology from China-owned companies, including Chery Group. As in December 2023, Chery Group celebrated its 27th anniversary, let’s look back to the journey of how Chery Group transformed to be a world-class company in the automotive industry.

Dating back to 1997, the company registered as Anhui Auto Parts Industry Co., Ltd making engines and auto parts. Until December 1999, as Chery Automobile, the company rolled out its first sedan and began to export to international markets a couple of years later.

Chery Group sold 1,000,000 vehicles in 2007, less than 8 years after sales began, breaking a record for China’s and the world’s quickest growth in the automobile sector at the time. Company has risen to the 7 most efficient Chinese vehicle manufacturer in terms of its production capacity, and it is China’s largest exporter of passenger automobiles.

Chery Group is the first Chinese vehicle company to establish an international R&D center to produce vehicles that carry out the demands of customers in every region. In just a decade, Chery Group has fully proficient the 3 core components in car manufacturing technology which are engine, transmission, and chassis. This achievement lifted up the company to align with world-class excellent level. Chery Group reached milestone in 2022, with over 1.2 million vehicle sales and about 500,000 cars exported globally. Chery Group has held the position of China’s leading passenger car exporter for 20 consecutive years receiving the title of “Top 20 Best Overseas Image Enterprises” in five consecutive selections by the SASAC (State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission) and the CICG (China International Communications Group). In the Kantar BrandZ Top 50 Chinese Brand Builders 2023 report, Chery ranks first in the automotive category. According to J.D. Power's automotive index studies for 2023, Chery holds the top position in the IQS (Initial Quality Study) among China's domestic brands.

In 2023 at 20th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition, Chery Group unveiled its first electric vehicles, OMODA 5 EV and JAECOO, a combined the cutting-edge technology of Chery Group, manufacturing the vehicles that reflect the lifestyle of consumers both in design and function perspectives.

OMODA 5 EV, the first all-electric vehicle, embraces modern and young-minded users who are dynamic, energetic, and fashionable. Meanwhile, JAECOO, an urban off-road SUV, is designed to satisfy the travel needs of the urbanists with exquisite taste, outdoor exploration, and high-end driving experience.

In early 2024, Chery Group is ready for a new milestone. The company will officially launch the service in Thailand bringing OMODA 5 EV and JAECOO to Thai consumers. And, by resuming operations this time, the company aims to invest in the construction of a manufacturing facility, thereby positioning Thailand as a hub for making right-hand drive vehicles in this area as well.
